The Mallard is a famous LNER Class A4 steam locomotive, renowned for holding the world speed record for steam locomotives at 126 mph (203 km/h), set on Stoke Bank in 1938, a record that still stands. Designed by Sir Nigel Gresley for high-speed express services, its sleek, wind-tunnel-tested Art Deco design symbolized 1930s modernity, and it's now a celebrated exhibit at the National Railway Museum in York.
